FAQ

Do you require proof of income?

While the application form does ask for income information, this is not used to determine eligibility. It simply helps us gain a better understanding of the needs in our community.
We ask that families self-assess their financial situation and decide if this support is right for them. The program is designed to help those who are struggling and to ease the burden of purchasing school supplies.

Who is eligible for the program?

The program is intended for families in Regina who need help preparing their children for the school year. It is open to children from Kindergarten through Grade 12. If you feel your family would benefit from this support, you are welcome to register.

How do I register my child?

Registration is done online through our secure online registration form. A link will be shared once registration opens for the 2025 season at the top of this page.

When does registration open?

Registration for 2025 will open on July 21st and will remain open until all spots are full.

What does each backpack include?

Each backpack comes filled with grade-appropriate school supplies such as pencils, notebooks, glue, scissors, pencil crayons, binders, and more. Supplies are tailored to the child’s grade level to help them feel prepared for school.
We cross-reference several school supply lists from the Regina Public School Board and the Regina Catholic School Board to help determine what goes in each bag.

How much does it cost?

The program is provided completely free to families who register. Thanks to generous donors, sponsors, and community partners, there is no cost to receive a backpack.

Can I request backpacks for more than one child?

Yes, you can register each school-aged child in your household who needs a backpack. The registration form allows you to add multiple children.

I missed registration. Can I still get a backpack?

We do our best to help as many families as possible, but space is limited. If registration is full, you may be placed on a waitlist. We will contact waitlisted families if additional supplies become available.

I missed my pickup time. What should I do?

If you missed your scheduled pickup time, please contact us as soon as possible. We understand that things come up, and we’ll do our best to arrange another time for you to collect your backpack(s). However, due to high demand and limited supplies, we cannot guarantee availability if pickups are missed without notice.

Contact information and instructions will be included in your original confirmation email. If you can’t find it, feel free to call or email our office directly for assistance.

I don’t need a backpack but want to help. How can I support the program?

Helping Regina Students Start the School Year Right

For many families, the back-to-school season is filled with hope and new beginnings. But for others, it can bring stress and uncertainty, especially when school supplies are out of reach.

That’s where The Salvation Army’s Backpacks for Kids program steps in.

We believe every child should start the school year feeling confident, prepared, and excited to learn. This program provides brand-new backpacks filled with essential, grade-appropriate supplies for children from Kindergarten through Grade 12. It’s our way of helping kids feel ready for the year ahead.

What This Program Means for Families

Each year, hundreds of families in Regina reach out for support. A filled backpack may seem like a small thing, but it can have a big impact. It’s one less worry for parents and one more reason for a child to feel proud walking into class.

We want every student to have the tools they need, so they can focus on learning and not on what they’re missing.

Registration for the 2025 season will open soon. Check back here for more information. Space is limited.

What Families Are Saying

“Due to food prices and rent and bills for 5 children, it gets hard to make sure they have everything they need. This really helps us a lot and I’m grateful for the support.” – Rebecca

“The backpack program has impacted my family positively by reducing the stress and financial burden of back-to-school shopping. Thank you for putting smiles on my children’s faces.” – Ijeoma

“This year will be the first time for us for the back pack program I am very thankful for each and every donor who makes it possible so we can also send our kids to school. Last year my kids didn’t had any supplies but the teachers were generous to help them” – Sadia

The cost of living and feeding your children nutritious food is costly. I will forever be grateful for these programs and hope one day that I can donate to give back.” – Keanna
